Back in 2000, Bush and Gore were running each other to be the next President of the United States. As time pushed to December, Gore was going to lose the election to Bush. Come December, there was a manual recount of almost 10,000 ballots made by Florida's local circuit court, ultimately requested by Gore himself. Apparently the reasoning was about malfunctioning ballot machines and being manual recounting for belief that ballot committee members were not completely truthful. At first Gore won with the updated count from the recount on votes, though Bush turned to the Supreme Court saying that the recount "violated the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment (Laws 6)." In the end,the Supreme Court favored Bush in the end stating that United States Governments aren't allowed to infringe on the rights and freedoms of it's people, which is a fundamental part of the 14th Amendment.
